Why Is Dave Ramsey Wrong About Stimulus Checks?

Last week Dave Ramsey made a pretty harsh statement about anyone that needed stimulus checks. He went on to say, “If $600 or $1,400  changes your life, you’re pretty much screwed already. You’ve got other issues going on.” He went on to suggest these issues could include income problems, debt problems, relationship problems and mental illness problems. You know what I think if you need stimulus money? You are not screwed what you are is someone in the middle of a global pandemic. Perhaps you have been furloughed, lost hours or worse yet lost your job.  What  I cannot stand is “gurus” using shame and guilt to motivate you to change your behavior or actions. While this tactic might work;  I beg you to ask at what larger cost? Your emotional well-being leaving relationships in your life more strained.

I couldn’t disagree with you more Dave Ramsey. This is why I am so passionate about teaching women to be their own F.A.B. (Financial Ambassador Boss). I know what it is like to have less than $100.00 bucks in my checking that had to last two weeks until pay day. I can’t imagine if that was during a global pandemic.⁣ ⁣Using shame and being a bully is no way to teach financial literacy. Furthermore, do you know how many single mom’s aren’t screwed but just trying to provide for their families? ⁣ ⁣My dedication to empowering women in financial literacy isn’t about the money. It’s truly about making a difference, offering hope and breathing life into the lifeless. I know how hopeless it feels to be so financially strapped not screwed. ⁣ ⁣Do better Dave 𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗦𝗘𝗬 not to mention it makes my blood boil when you these gurus preach from yet lack the empathy to understand how much “worry” for women is woven into our DNA. That statement could really send some poor women in financial free fall.

How often have you compared your beginning to someone else’s “middle” that seemed perfect from afar. Early on in my path to restore my finances, I remember my boss at the time admonishing me for not having an emergency fund. I distinctly remember the shame I felt coupled with the bitterness of someone who was sitting on a fortune. What I want you to know is that you are not screwed that you are human!  Will the journey be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Of course! Is their hope for you? Absolutely! If you read or heard these comments and it caused you to spin into financial free fall; reach out.  I encourage you to follow “financial experts” who teach from hope, love, encouragement and empathy.  Please delete or unfollow anyone who comes from shame or guilt to evoke change in you.  I promise you that you can thrive and this season of struggle doesn’t mean you are screwed.
